About
WHO
Tamara Brathwaite, a proud citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, has been writing creatively since a purple crayon was placed in her hand. Her formal storytelling journey began at age nine with her first book and continued to grow into something deeper when she moved to Jamaica as a young adult for university. There, she started documenting her experiences through heartfelt emails sent to friends and family, dispatches filled with challenges, triumphs and the small moments that shaped her student life.
As Tamara entered the working world, these missives continued and her mailing list expanded organically to more than 400 readers around the globe. She paused her email letters in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, but her writing never stopped.
Having lived in seven countries, travelled across six continents, while living on four of them and visited more than fifty nations, Tamara’s writing shares a global perspective rooted in island warmth. Purple Craion is the natural next chapter, a way to share her stories not by screen, but by post.
WHAT
Purple Craion is a subscription-based letter-writing service designed to revive the simple joy of receiving real mail. Each letter blends nostalgia, creativity, and human connection, offering a moment of pause in an endlessly digital world.
The goal is simple: to sustainably cover the cost of stationery, printing and mailing so the timeless art of correspondence can continue to thrive.
WHY
Purple Craion continues a long tradition of storytelling, transforming Tamara’s digital missives into handwritten letters that travel across the world to reach you. It is an invitation to slow down and enjoy the feeling of opening something truly meant for you.
Every subscription includes at least six letters a year, each filled with reflections, adventures and a touch of whimsy. Your first letter is already on its way, carrying a little piece of Tamara’s world, from a crayon to a creative, from writer to a world of wonder.
Real letters. Real stories. Really meant. Really sent.
